This story is written as a mother's teachings to her daughter. What is your reaction to the content of the story? Also, why do you think the author chooses the structure that she does to present this story?

i believe that all what is said in the text was right because alot of cultures have where the mother tells the daughter all the things she has to do when she gets married and make her husband happy and not look bad in other peoples eyes.

My reaction is that in a way it's sort of like brainwashing and shoving down rules that are "what all women must do". it seems as though it is a tradition, because the mother speaking the way she is seems to have gotten brainwashed into thinking that is exactly what women should obey and live by.
ReplyDeleteI think the structure is crucial for the message and the message/point being is to show how a women or girls might hear this sets of rules, for example the mother may have not said all of this things in this monotone way or said all of this at once, in fact it seems like all this "rules" were said at different times for different situations. So the structure of the story is just in a way summing up how girls are trained to be women.

ReplyDeleteANS: My respoce to this story's content is just apathetic. I mean, who cares if your mother,culture or religion is pressuring you to do the "right" things. If you don't want to live up to their norms, find a different path and fuck it all.
ANS: By structure, do you mean all that crazy punctuation? If so, I think the author is an idiot. She over did it with all those semicolons. I'm not an avid fan of reading, but it (Girl) just looked stupid to my eyes. Why didnt she just list them? If I had the opportunity to meet her, I'd shake her hand and look her in the eye and tell her that she's an idiot. Writting like that should be against the law. I don't understand why someone would write something in that structure.
